Fucking Werewolf Asso

In English:
I was recently asked to do a picture for the band Fucking Werewolf Asso, and this is the result. I have been asked to do cover art for bands in the past, but with the exception of the cover I did for ME+YOU (that I have posted here earlier) I've never been totally happy with any of them. This time it worked out nicely, although I'm not entirely confident that it fits the music it's supposed to represent. This is probably due to a growing facination of mine for everything that's psychedelic. These influences probably shows a lot more than I intended them to, as Fucking Werewolf Asso doesn't make music that's psychedelic. On top of this I had not heard any of their latest tracks when I made this picture, so that could prove a problem.
What I've heard of their music is quite awesome though, so I really wanted to do good this time, which resulted in me not finishing the picture on time... But it was worth it I guess - I'm really pleased with it.
The obvious theme of the picture is that of transformation, which is the part of the werewolf mythology that I find interesting. I also wanted to mix in elements of both nature and what we perceive as synthetic (like the fractal sturcture in the background). The pictures I've used are from googles Image-search engine, which is a real blessing to work with.

Blev ombedd att göra en promotionbild till bandet Fucking Werewolf Asso, och här är resultatet. Har tidigare försökt mig på att göra omslag till band, men med undantag av omslaget jag gjorde till Me+You har jag aldrig tyckt att det blivit helt lyckat. Den här gången funkade det bättre, även om jag är lite osäker på hurpass bra bilden passar med musiken den ska representera. Jag har nämligen blivit lite överförtjust i allt som har med psykedelia att göra, och dessa influenser syns nog ganska tydligt i den här bilden. Fucking Werewolf Asso gör dock inte särskilt psykedelisk musik, och jag har inte hört deras senaste låtar än, så jag vet inte riktigt...
Det jag hört av deras musik är iaf riktigt grymt, så jag ville verkligen göra bra ifrån mig, och drog därmed över deadlinen vi bestämt. Men det var det värt; jag är riktigt nöjd med den här bilden.

Transformation är ju det uppenbara temat i den, vilket är det jag själv finner intressant i varulvsmyten, men jag ville även blanda in både natur och mer mekaniska inslag (som fraktalstrukturen i bakgrunden). Bilderna jag använt mig av hittade jag återigen via googles bildsökmotor, som är så förbannat bra att ha tillgång till.

Videogames are not very interesting and neither are gamers, but I signed up for an exhibition that had videogames as it's theme  anyway. Seems like my dear brother would have been more of a nice fit for this though, as he actually makes innovative games and uses them as expressions for a bit more indepth emotion and thought than most other game makers. Anyway, I've heard that you make greater art if you are forced to work with limited resources and within boundries you might not be comfortable with - and if you add some time pressure to all this, you should really make something amazing, right?
I guess not, because the idea was to make atleast three pictures for this exhibition and the end result was just one. And one that doesn't really seem finished at that. So I guess I failed since I didn't even participate with my contribution.

Well, I should probably say something about the picture anyway. It's a depiction of the child actor David Holt (1927-2003), whom I discoverd through http://www.calassicmoviekids.com. The Idea for it was to make a commercial poster warning of the dangers of videogames, but that was just the idea, and doesn't really reflect on how the picture turned out. I guess I should be happy with it though, because it is quite pretty. And even if it's not one of the pieces I've put most effort into, it's atleast quite big (29,7 x 42 cm, 600 dpi).

If you check below I've attatched a few pictures of the defunct little cutie I used as a model for this picture, who during his lifetime not only had a career in acting, but even recorded some music and wrote a couple of books! Awesome!

TV-spel är inte särskilt intressanta och inte gamers heller, men jag ska ändå delta i en utställning med TV-spel som tema. Känns som att min bror hade passat bättre in där kanske, eftersom han faktiskt lyckats göra något innovativt inom det mediet. Nåväl, jag har hört att man ska göra bättre bilder om man tvingas arbeta med obekväma förutsättningar, och till det kommer en hel del tidspress. Jag har liksom bara ett par dagar på mig att färdigställa alla bilder jag vill ha med - jag satsar på kanske tre-fyra stycken, men pga lite kreativt blockage blir det nog bara två.
Jag har dessutom deadline på ett par andra konceptbilder jag håller på med till bandet Fucking Werewolf Asso's nya skivsläpp.

Nå, jag kanske borde säga något om bilden jag lagt upp här. Den är en avbildning av barnskådespelaren

Idén till bilden var någon slags reklamliknande kollage som skulle varna för faran med TV-spel, men jag vet inte riktigt hur det blev med det. Ganska snyggt resultat, tycker jag åtminstone, och även om bilden inte direkt är supergenomarbetad är den i alla fall ganska stor (29,7x42cm 600dpi).

Jag bifogar ett par bilder på den avlidne godbiten, som tydligen inte bara höll sig till skådespeleri utan senare även spelade in musik och skrev böcker.

The sun is great and wonderful, I guess we can all agree on that. But isn't it also a bit scary? When you think about it it's actually just a big burning ball of gas that's so hot and shines so bright that even 150 million kilometers away it can still burn your skin, cause you to go blind and even transform your DNA to such a degree that the cells that are exposed to it start forming tumors.
The desert and the ocean are the landscapes I associate most to the sun - these vast, enormous places where we humans are more or less constantly at it's mercy - and when I made this picture I decided it would be a very sunny and bright piece. While making it I for some reason thought a lot about the book "Pontypool Changes Everything" (http://www.amazon.com/Pontypool-Changes-Everything-Tony-Burgess/dp/1550223569) by Tony Burgess, but I can se no link between the two, though I'd really would have loved it if there was.

Solen är fantastisk och underbar. Men är den inte också lite otäck? Den är ju ändå ett gigantiskt brinnande gasklot som är så hett och lyser så starkt att den till och med 150 miljoner km bort kan orsaka brännskador och hudcancer. Öknen och (konstigt nog) havet är de landskap som jag associerar med solen - de landskap där man mer eller mindre konstant är utsatt för den i alla fall - och jag bestämde mig för att göra en riktigt solig ökenbild. Jag hade dock lite problem med att få solen att se intressant ut, tills jag hittade en mikroskopisk genomskärning av vävnad från en människotestikel som uppenbarligen passade utmärkt.
Av någon anledning tänkte jag på boken "Pontypool Changes Everything" (http://www.amazon.com/Pontypool-Changes-Everything-Tony-Burgess/dp/1550223569) av Tony Burgess när jag gjorde bilden, men jag ser ingen direkt koppling mellan de två, även om jag önskar att en sådan fanns.

JULKLAPP TILL PAPPA

In English:
When chinese people translate their own language into english they seem to do alot of mistakes, which is one of the main points to this picture. That there´s a naked woman in the foreground I blame on the fact that this is a postcard that I made for my father at Christmas, and it felt like somthing he would have liked - though I never actually got around to giving it to him. Another reason for the female nudity is that you actually can eat dinner off of the naked body of a woman in some restaurants in Japan (or if it was in another asian country, I'm not completely sure). This may not seem to be very important information when you look at the picture if you don't realize that all the quotes that covers it actually are from real life  chinese resturant menus where they truly messed up with the translation.
Personally I almost started drooling when I read some of the names of these dishes, like "Cowboy leg Beautiful pole", "Black Mushroom Rape" or "The Temple Explodes the chicken Cube".
"Scavenging new radical tech", however, does not come from any menu, but from the package of the chinese brand cigarettes, "Long Life Mild" (http://farm1.static.flickr.com/100/267261502_0ef6aaca7f.jpg). Probably the worst cigarettes I've ever smoked, even though they cost about 4 dollar a pack (which in Sweden is extremely cheap).

När kineser översätter från sitt eget språk till engelska blir det ofta lite fel, vilket man kan säga inspirerade den här bilden. Att det ligger en naken kvinna i bildens förgrund skyller jag på att den skulle bli ett vykort jag skulle ge till min pappa i julklapp, och det kändes som något han skulle gilla (jag kom dock aldrig så långt att jag faktiskt gav honom den). Dessutom hade jag väl i åtanken att man kan äta middag från nakna kvinnokroppar på restauranger i Japan om jag inte minns fel - det kan ha varit något annat asiatiskt land - vilket kanske inte verkar ha så mycket med bilden att göra om man inte vet om att de flesta "citaten" på den kommer från restaurangmenyer.
Personligen börjar jag nästan dregla när jag läser om maträtter med namn som "Cowboy Leg Beautiful Pole", "Black Mushroom Rape" och "The Temple Explodes The Chicken Cube".

MORS DAG

In English:
A few days before mothers day I Finished and printed this picture in A4-size with my fathers photoprinter. It was a present for my beloved mother, and when I gave it to her she seemed to like it - even though she later admitted being a bit horrified, as she thought the string acompanying the pair of sleeping baby twins appearing out of the shell was a extremely long penis (appearently she does not know that slug's genitals are placed near the head and not the shell, and that this string is actually feces).
This was the first time I used a tablet for drawing on my computer, which was a gift from my mother (http://www.wacom.com/en/Products/BambooTablets/BambooPenandTouch.aspx). Which means that without my dear, sweet mother I wouldn't be posting these awesome pictures! Thanks Mom!

Lagom till mors dag gjorde jag klart och tryckte upp den här bilden i A4-format med min pappas skrivare. Den var en present till min kära mamma, och när jag gav den till henne verkade hon gilla den - även om hon senare erkände att hon blivit en aning förfärad då hon trodde att det var en lång snopp som tränger ut ur snäckan tillsammans med de sovande tvillingarna (alla som kan något om sniglar vet dock att det är en bajssträng, då sniglars könsorgan sitter nära huvudet och inte i närheten av skalet).
Det här var även första gången jag använde mitt digitala ritbord, som min moder betalat (http://www.wacom.com/en/Products/BambooTablets/BambooPenandTouch.aspx). Så utan henne hade jag inte haft särskilt många bilder i den här bloggen. Tack Mamma!

ME+YOU DESKTOPBAKGRUND

This is an old desktop background I made at the same time as I did the cover for the cover for the ME+YOU EP that I have posted here earlier. The picture of the squid-mouthed boy I took from an H&M-ad I found online and reworked, and the japanese/chinese letters on the left are from some Power Metal compilation if my memory serves me right.

På Svenska:
En gammal desktopbakgrund som jag gjorde i samband med omslaget till ME+YOU jag postat här tidigare. Bilden på pojken kommer från en H&M-reklam jag hittade på nätet, och de japanska eller kinesiska tecken som figurerar till vänster är från någon power metal-samling om jag minns rätt.
Notera gärna även den fula enhörningen som står på ett av husen i bakgrunden.

SISTA BILDEN

In English:
I like broken things, at least the aesthetic aspects of them; when things are broken beyond repair and no longer of any practical use, they turns into something else - something similar to art or decoration. Or, atleast for me they do. In this picture, which I did for an exhibition with the kind of awkward theme, "Future!" (a theme which I did not decide myself), I wanted to make a picture that breaks up the concept of reality and breaks it beyond repair, the same way material things can be broken, so that it turns something new.
I'm not sure if this intention gets across though, and not even sure if I wanted it to as it isn't the greatest Idea I've ever had, but the end result sure looks pretty!
I'm very happy with this picture, and I think it says alot about my views on life. Some may interpret the picture as dark, apocalyptic and negative, and of course I think that's an okay way to look at it, though it's not the way I see things.
This picture represents something positive for me... or maybe positive is not the right word, but it's really just a little joke. A silly, laughable comment on the absurdity of our modern views of what we call existence.
The two characters in the picture are really the same person, a child actor called Ra Hould, and the 3D-glasses, which is probably the element that makes this picture work, was not my idea, but my brothers. The background are portions of photographs of slum buildings that I've cut up, outlined, and pasted together.

Jag tycker om slitna byggnader med igenbommade fönster utan glas och jag gillar flagnad färg och vittrande tegelstenar och förfallna lekplatser. Det gör inget om gårdar är trånga och nedskräpade eller om deras sandlådor är full av glassplitter och kattskit, dels för att jag inte längre leker i sandlådor och dels för att de är så mycket snyggare och roligare att avbilda på det viset.
Här är alltså sista bilden som jag gjort till Galleri Variant 23's utställning med framtidstema, och jag skulle vilja påstå att den innehåller tillräckligt av farhågor och förhoppningar inför morgondagen för att kanske passar in på temat (möjligtvis passar den bäst om man väljer att tolka den som apokalyptisk, vilket jag personligen inte gör).
De två karaktärerna som figurerar på bilden är inspirerade av barnskådespelaren Ra Hould - som tydligen gillade att spela sjöman eller militär, då de flesta bilderna av honom jag lyckades hitta var i uniform (de stjärnformade 3D-glasögon som sjömansversionen av Ra Hould bär - en detalj som enligt mig gör hela bilden - var tråkigt nog min brors geniala idé och inte min egen).

Bakgrunden är hopklippta portioner av slumhus, sandlådor och leröken som jag letat reda på via Googles bildsökmotor och sedan gjort om. Nu ska jag sova.
